SCULPTRA (Poly L Lactic Acid)

Activate the skin's natural regenerative process!

Sculptra, or Poly L lactic acid (PLLA), is one of the most effective rejuvenating treatments for your face. Sculptra is not a filler but rather a suspension of tiny particles known as Poly-L-lactic acid. This substance has been used in the operating room as a surgical suture for many years and has been proven safe in millions of patients. When used as an aesthetic treatment, Sculptra injections stimulate fibroblast cells to produce the collagen. This collagen growth restores facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.

Benefits

  • Sculptra is superior to many aging treatments because of its ability to restore natural facial volume. As we age, we gradually loose facial fat and bone. This results in a sunken and hollow look that distinguishes an aged face from a youthful face. Sculptra, when properly injected, is placed in areas of the face that have lost volume, such as the cheeks, temples, and jawline. Gradually facial volume is restored and wrinkles and folds are smoothed.
  • On top of this, Scupltra is also injected more superficially in the skin to thicken the dermal collagen which will have a tightening effect. So, Sculptra can both restore volume and tighten at the same time!
  • Sculptra results look incredibly natural. When dosed and injected properly Sculptra will never leave you looking like you’ve had filler or other “work” done. Instead you will simply look like a younger version of yourself.
  • Most amazingly, Scupltra has incredible longevity. The collagen growth can last 2-5 years. Think about that… Large amounts of collagen that restores volume and tightens the skin and lasts for years! That’s why Sculptra is such an amazing and economical treatment!

Ideal Candidate

  • You don’t need to be old and saggy to get the benefit of Sculptra. Patients in their 30s can benefit from small amounts, a vial or two, in order to prevent the effects of aging. However, if you have decreased volume, sagging and wrinkles then Sculptra is an ideal treatment. For advanced aging Sculptra is especially helpful in preparing the skin for other treatments such as fillers and PDO Threads.

What to Expect

  • Prior to receiving Sculptra treatments you should avoid blood thinners such as aspirin for 7 days and ibuprofen for 3 days.
  • Sculptra is mixed with water and injected in the face, targeting areas where collagen growth is most needed. Initially you’ll have about 18 milliliters of water in your face, which gives a moderate full look that goes away in a day or two. You may also have some mild achy tenderness in the face for a few days.
  • Bruising occasionally occurs at one or more of the injections sites. You can take Arnica for 3 days before and after to reduce the risk of bruising and decrease swelling.
  • You will be asked to massage the face five times a day for a five days. This massage distributes the PLLA under the skin and decreases the likelihood of developing small collagen nodules, which are the main possible side effect of Sculptra. If nodules do occur, they usually are not visible, and they eventually go away.
  • Sculptra quickly starts stimulating your body to produce collagen, however, results are not immediate as the collagen formation occurs slowly over the course of several months.
  • Sculptra is usually injected in a series of treatments of one to two vials per treatment, given 1 month or more apart. As a general rule, one vial is required per decade of life, but this varies with patient needs. After your initial vials, one vial per year is recommended for maintenance of your results.
